Sunday 5th May 2024: Salzburg Jagdhornblasers, an Alpine Horn an a Sound of Music Singalong

I'm still outside Vienna and jolly glad I have not been out since it has been a wet and dull day, so on with Part II of my Salzburg visit which took the form of lunch at a rustic traditional restaurant which featured in the Sound of Music film (Oh dear I forgot to mention the numerous sites that also featured in the film on our visit to the city this morning) on the Gaisberg mountain that overlooks the city.

We were greeted by a group of Jagdhornblasers – Hunting horns – before enjoying an excellent lunch of roast chicken followed by Apfel Strudel (The second portion in less than 2 hours!) and all washed down with a mini bierstein (See Photo) of a pleasant local brew or local Apple juice.

Lunch was followed by an excellent Sound of Music Performance that ended with a roof raising rendition of Edelweiss and Doh Ray Me …. To my astonishment I recalled all the words perfectly and I think I only saw the film once on Christmas TV more years ago than I care to remember. A memorable and enjoyable experience that included a piece played on a full length Alpine Horn.

It was then outside to enjoy the stunning scenery.

Another post will follow with a video of the scenery.
